Restaurant Zest Derby is an award-winning independent restaurant in the heart of Derby City Centre. Located in the Cathedral Quarter in The Old Bell Hotel, one of the city’s most atmospheric venues we continue to provide the best relaxed fine dining experience.
Zest Derby was setup in 1998 in the centre of the city with the aim of providing fantastic, flavoursome food in a relaxed and casual environment. Fine dining was known for bringing a touch of theatre to the dinner table, however, it’s often considered a ‘formal’ occasion. At Restaurant Zest, we want to bring you the great food and style but without all the stuffiness. And with this in mind Zest has been one of the longest standing restaurants in the centre of Derby. Over 18 years on Zest Derby continues to bring you the best fresh seasonal food in a relaxed environment.

Zest Derby has always been about relaxed fine dining from day one and over the years we’ve been recognised as Derby’s Restaurant of the Year in 2012/2013 & 2013/2014 as well as having the Good Food Guide 2011, 2012 & 2013, Michelin Guide, Hardens and various Derby Food & Drink Awards all nestling in our trophy cabinet.

An Atmospheric & Historic Restaurant
In July 2015 Restaurant Zest relocated into the historic Old Bell Hotel on Sadler Gate. Our new restaurant was graced with a cosy interior with exposed beams from the old coaching inn and a new indoor courtyard ideal for private parties and special occasions.

Joe has working in the industry for four years starting as a Waiter at a restaurant in Belper. Along with completing his A-Levels, he rose through the ranks to a managerial position at a local country Pub and Restaurant.

Ian has been working at Restaurant Zest Derby since the start! Working his way up from trainee chef to the Head Chef, Ian could tell you a story or two. Ian has been responsible for creating some of Zest's incredible award-winning dishes.
Ian's favourite thing about Zest is having a cuppa (with 3 sugars) at the end of a busy shift.
