Greek evening

A really lovely evening with you in Greece! The whole thing was so well done and despite the awful weather we felt that is where we were Can't wait for the next one.

Meal on 26th May 2010

First visit to Zest but it certainly won't be our last. Very impressed with the food - my husband said that it was the best sweet he had ever had! It was cosy upstairs and we were well looked after by Matthew Byard, an excellent waiter. Thanks to all concerned who made our evening so special.

Retro Gastronomy evening

Treated a friend to this privilege night for her birthday, we both loved it and it was great to hear some of the classics playing in the background ! The food was fantastic and i look forward to coming to more of these events. The staff were attentive - a nice personal touch

I set out below report I

I set out below report I have sent to GFG. I am an ex GFG inspector (1999 - 2006). I won't write at great length purely because I've given up lengthy treatises on restuarants. This is a small, intimate restaurant cleverly constructed from a converted stable block behind FriarGate (Derby's "Georgian" area). Dishes were refreshingly original, well executed modern British fare and very good value for money. Service was very good: very friendly & prompt. Overall, I wish more places like this existed instead of the plethora of identical slick & expensive brasseries which train a conveyor belt of chefs to follow an "easy to cook" (arrange things on a plate artistically!)formula. This restaurant deserves a rating of 3/10 on basis of our meal. I'm surprised it has escaped the GFG inspection net. If it has been inspected recently and not been recommended for a listing, I'd suggest you look closely at your inspector! We had the early dinner menu: 3 courses for £17.95. Starters: we all had Spring Minestrone: very classy light soup with clear refreshing flavours, containg green vegetables (asparagus etc.) and a few strands of sphagetti and beans. Mains: I sampled two: (i) smoked haddock with poached egg on bed of soft potato slices/cake with traces of onion (ii)leek and ricotta tart with cream and chive sauce. Separate bowl of vegetables supplied for the table. Both v.good. (i) a very traditional British dish and well executed (ii)came to table bubbling away straight from the oven and refreshingly, appeared to have been made up to order and not "one of a batch of 50 we made yesterday and warmed up). Desserts: sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. A standard nowadays but still well executed. Very good moist sponge. definitely made in the kitchen and not bought in! Privilege Night

Only booked last minute but so glad i did - was nice to eat retro classics, thanks for reminding me of my youth !

2 visits

2 visits recently and both where the food was outstanding 1. service was not so good as the steaks arrived but the accompanyments didn't - had to leave the table to ask as the there whereabouts - it was rectified and 50% knocked off teh bill to compensate - fantastic gesture and unexpected. 2. returned this saturday and everything was exceptional - food service atmosphere - steaks were cooked beautifully

wow!

One word says it all - WOW!

Georges Debouef French Night

Brilliant evening last night. Congratulations to all of your staff for such efficient service, and to you and Stuart for excellent planning and also to chef for lovely light starters and superb bouef bourguinon. One observation is that whilst the cheeses were excellent,we could not deal with your generous portions, but thank you. The entertaining Mr Georges was great value and so were the wines! See you again soon.
